Innovation Showcase | CV Partner pioneers project data banks

IT solution gives project delivery teams a head start by tapping into a bank of knowledge.

CV Partner, a cloud-based SaaS (software as a solution) tool, is aiding project teams to make scheme design and delivery more efficient.

By having past project data stored on CV Partner’s platform, project managers can draw on a bank of past work at the click of a button, saving time and money by enabling them to build on previous successes rather than starting each new project from scratch.

CV Partner offers firms a new digital way to manage their CVs and case studies. Since launching in Oslo, CV Partner has established a proven track record in the Nordics, with around 80% of IT consultancies including Capgemini and Tietoevry in Norway now using the service. It is now expanding across the world, with many UK built environment firms using the service. In the construction and engineering sector Nordic firms like Sweco and Multiconsult have incorporated CV Partner into their tendering process.

CV Partner was originally built to save companies time and money when it comes to bidding for work. And while it is still widely used by bid managers, the tool has evolved to also assist project managers, operations directors and knowledge managers with scheme delivery. CV Partner founder and chief executive Erling Linde explains that “the data is already there and is waiting to be used” to assist the design and delivery of projects. Linde adds: “It is a natural evolution for the CV Partner platform. The information previously inputted by bid managers to help them with procurement is there and can be just as readily used by those heading up project delivery teams.”

He continues: “For example, one of our customers developing waste water treatment plants across Europe has been using CV Partner to identify similar projects across their business to share knowledge, experience, design and specifications. This is a massive advantage for the client and the project. In this case, the design manager was able to reuse approximately 20% of the previous design from something that had already been successfully delivered. It reduced design and construction risk and has saved our customer and their client a significant amount of time. Doing this also enables greater continuous improvement on what has come before, rather than starting with a blank page each time a new project needs to be delivered.

“Traditionally it could take days, weeks, even months looking for case studies to build on. Sometimes you won’t even find what you need. Without CV Partner it can be like looking for needle in a haystack. But with CV Partner you can easily search your whole back catalogue of past projects at a click of a button to help your engineers and consultants to reuse and recycle existing project know-how.”

Linde’s background is in the IT sector where he began his career as a software developer. He believes the “agile, quick development cycles” that have become synonymous with the IT sector could be replicated by engineering and construction project teams by taking advantage of CV Partner’s potential to both bid for work and then develop schemes.

“Ultimately, by having a head start project teams can save an enormous amount of time which was previously taken up doing unproductive tasks, which frees up more time on design, to be innovative, to test ideas,” says Linde.
